Valuable Advice and Suggestions for New Sailor's and
Ol' Sea Dogs Alike!
- Dinghies and BBQ's.....Make sure that when you're Barbequing on the stern rail that the dinghy is not tied off directly underneath the BBQ. The dinghy may seem like a good catcher for the errant sausage, but hot embers and coals don't mix with rubber boats!
- Squeaky Head pumps: Whilst your head shouldn't squeak when you pump the handle, sometimes it might. For a quick fix apply just a little vegetable oil to the metal shaft and pump gently...the squeak will disappear.
- Anchor tip. If you have an all chain rode, use a snubbing line when the anchor is set. This takes the load off the windlass and will stop the chain keeping you awake at night. Attach the hook of the line to the chain and make it off to a deck cleat, then ease the gypsy putting slack into the chain. Remember to retighten the gypsy before retrieving the anchor.
