We have the end of Antigua Sailing Week at the beginning of May, so if you want to combine your sailing trip with some Regatta parties, what better place to do it.  Antigua offers such a contrast in terms of sailing opportunities; choose to join in with the parties or find your own secluded anchorage; it’s really up to you.

We have a fleet of monohull and Catamarans to choose from, ranging in size from 40 – 50 feet – something to suit every sailor and crew.  You can click right here to view the entire fleet based in Antigua.

Sailing with Horizon and Nautilus School

Learn to Sail in the Caribbean Sun!

Did you know you could learn to sail while enjoying a holiday in the sun? Horizon Yacht Charters Grenada are proud partners of the Nautilis Sailing School.  The American Sailing Association recently announced their 2011 Outstanding Sailing Schools, and  Nautilus Sailing school was one of 20 ASA schools to be granted this award.  Nautilus Sailing School conduct weeklong  liveaboard sailing courses on Horizon’s Bavaria sailboats. Passionate about sailing, they have enjoyed sailing in some of the most spectacular cruising grounds around the world. ” The Grenadines are truly the ideal sailing classroom” says Lead Instructor Tim Geisler.

You will set sail from the beautiful, friendly island of Grenada and visit several other islands and special locations in the Grenadines. Explore this stunning location while earning American Sailing Association 101,103 and 104 (Basic Keelboat, Basic Coastal Cruising and Bareboat) certifications. Over the course of a week you will gain the knowledge, experience and certifications to charter sailboats anywhere in the world, and embark on your own sailing adventure!  The goal is to enjoy a learning vacation. The emphasis is on learning how to sail, through hands-on experience, in a beautiful part of the world. Mornings will be spent learning and practicing new skills. In the afternoons you will set sail with the backdrop of spectacular beaches and islands of the Grenadines, refining these newly learned skills along the way. Once anchored for the afternoon, there will be free time to spend exploring, snorkeling, fishing, and relaxing…

You will be sailing on Horizon Yacht Charters’ Bavaria yachts, which range in size from 39 feet to 42 feet. These are newer, spacious sailboats, with all the amenities one would expect to find on sailboats in charter fleets around the world. Your boat will have 3 cabins, 2 heads /bathrooms, a large kitchen and lounge/dining area, a cockpit with bimini for shade, and a dinghy with outboard motor for exploring. All participants are given a private cabin during their stay on the boat. The spacious owners’ cabin is saved for couples that sign up for the course. Contact Horizon Grenada or Nautilis to book your sailing holiday in the sun!

Horizon Antigua is an American Sailing Association (ASA) certification sailing school. We’re delighted to add the ASA Coastal Navigation Theory 105 course to our Learn to Sail Curriculum. Students of the ASA 105 will be able to demonstrate the navigational theory required to safely navigate a sailing vessel in coastal or inland waters.

Our Learn to Sail programme has structured levels of sailing standards including ASA 101 Basic Keelboat, ASA 103 Coastal Cruising, ASA 104 Bareboat Chartering and now the ASA 105 Coastal Navigation, which are examined at progressive certification levels.

Our ASA Instructor Dave has an impressive sailing resume with over 30 years experience sailing and instructing around the world. We offer the American Sailing Association ‘learn to sail’ courses to groups of friends or family. Courses are also available with a 2 bedroom villa option if guests prefer not to have overnight accommodation onboard a yacht. Drop me an email for more information; Jackie at info@antiguahorizon.com

ASA Learn to Sail with a twist!

November 2, 2009

What’s the twist, I hear you ask! So many times we are asked if it would be OK for our guests who are keen to take sailing courses (we offer ASA 101-104 from here), to bring other guests who do not want to take any ASA Learn to Sail courses. Well, Antigua is just perfect for that scenario as you can take a waterfront condominium with your own 50′ dock and your non-sailing, non-learning friends can either chill out or they can choose to come along with you for a day or perhaps more. Jolly Harbour Marina in Antigua is perfect for this. Non-sailors can enjoy two white sand beaches, large swimming pool, 18-hole golf course, tennis courts and gym… to name a few activities, and choose from numerous restaurants and bars. The waterfront condominiums sleep four people in 2 double bedrooms and 2.5 baths. Not only that, but there’s also a/c, TV/DVD and waterfront patios – perfect for outdoor dining or fishing! We’ll be putting more information about this on our What’s New page so look out for that and you could just have the dream vacation you’ve been looking for! Something for everyone… and you get plenty of practice docking on your own dock!
